Formula One, also known as F1, is the highest class of single-seater auto racing sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). With origins stretching back to the 1950s, F1 Grand Prix events have been regularly held since, attracting a global audience of over 500 million people making it one of the most watched sports worldwide.
The average F1 Grand Prix tournament held across three days – typically from Friday to Sunday, with a string of qualifying and practice sessions taking place ahead of the deciding race on the Sunday afternoon or evening.

Current TV contracts for Formula One live coverage in the UK
As it stands today, F1 live stream and broadcast coverage is shared between Sky Sports and Channel 4 including all Practice, Qualifying sessions and Grand Prix races over the course of the F1 calendar - See below for a breakdown of TV contracts they currently hold:
Sky Sports
- Will broadcast full coverage of all 3 days of each F1 calendar event on their dedicated channel, Sky Sports F1. This current deal runs until 2024.
- The British Grand Prix will be shown on their free-to-air channel, Sky Sports Mix.
Channel 4
- Channel 4 currently hold the rights to show live coverage of the British Grand Prix until 2023.
- Highlights of all qualifying and races are also shown on C4 throughout the season.
