Former UFC Featherweight champion Ilia Topuria makes his debut at Lightweight against the #2 ranked Charles Oliveira. Topuria vacated the belt following a knockout of Max Holloway in his first title defence, citing struggles to make weight as well as a lack of interest in the competition available at Featherweight as his reasons behind moving up a division. Comparatively, Kai Kara-France has a much more irregular record having lost twice in his last three fights, but an entertaining TKO victory against Steve Erceg has presented him with the opportunity to fight for the belt. Pantoja and Kara-France have fought previously in the quarterfinals of The Ultimate Fighter: Tournament of Champions with Pantoja winning a unanimous decision to take him to the semifinals; he was officially signed to the UFC’s roster shortly after.
